While many homes and businesses have already had the switch to digital, for the car industry a Government announcement on the big switchover to DAB radio is eagerly awaited by the industry in December. It is thought around 28 million cars will need new digital radios or adaptors installed to enable car users to continue to enjoy their radios once the digital switchover takes place. Select-CBS is not only the first company to be given the Digital Tick, the national accreditation scheme by Mobile Electronics & Security Federation (MESF) and Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) which ensures national standards of installation, but the testing carried out will set the standard for others across the UK. Select CBS will also train and assess other fitters at its Clifton Road showrooms and workshop. Today, Mayor of Cambridge Cllr Paul Saunders and Cambridge MP Julian Huppert were at Select- CBS to witness the company receive its Digital Tick. Also present were representatives of the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) and the Federation of Communications Services (FCS). Select-CBS had to pass strict national accreditation criteria to gain their Digital Tick, a digital radio switchover certification mark.
Managing Director of Select-CBS, Naeem Khokhar, said: “This is fantastic news for us as a Cambridge company and for our customers. We are leading the way in the industry for in-car digital installations. Our customers can be assured that we set the highest standards here at Select-CBS and that we are recognised nationally for our experience and quality of installations.”
Jeff Marshall MIMI, General Secretary of the Mobile Electronics & Security Federation (MESF) who was present at the testing today, said: “Today in Cambridge, this is the first step in our industry’s preparation for the digital switchover”. “The Digital Mark is a quality mark to ensure that digital installations in cars are carried out to high standards and to ensure customers get a good service. When you trust someone to take apart your car to install digital radios and adaptors, you need to be sure the highest standards are being met”. “Select CBS are a quality company and very experienced in assessing. They will be training and assessing newly qualified installers here in Cambridge from across the UK.”
